Shepherd's Fold Ranch
Summer Discipleship Training Opportunities
Summer Furnace Application

Shepherd’s Fold Ranch has been a Discipleship Training Center since 1972 offering a wide range of summer camps for kids age 5 to 24.

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6

We offer week-long summer camps for elementary, junior high and senior high students. Our emphasis is on training up leaders (not followers). After completing high school, SFR continues to offer leadership training for ages 18 to 24. This Summer Discipleship Training Program extends from mid May through the last week in July.

The SFR Summer Discipleship Training Program:

“The Furnace”

“Remove the dross from the silver and produce material for the silversmith.”
Proverbs 25:4

These are the 18-24 year olds that sign on for the summer. This is an 9-12 week discipleship training school. It involves intense "on the job training" in ministry as well as mentorship and bible training.

“The Furnace” is a summer training school not a summer job.

Those in The Furnace will get experience in counseling and teaching, scheduling and organizing meetings for ages 5-17 years old, programming activities, supervising and mentoring small groups and much more. These “students” will go through training classes each week with mentors and teachers that are currently working in ministries around the world. These teachers are Prophets, Apostles, Pastors, Teachers and Evangelists that have mature ministries to thousands of people each year. As a part of your training, you will have weekly assignments in one of our many counseling or support positions. This “hands on” experience will change your life!

The Furnace is optimally a four summer program designed to prepare you for Christian leadership not just in your heart but also in your mind. At SFR, we’re not just trying to train leaders for summer camps but also to function in your local church, your family and in your school or job (in your life!). The four summers are not required, but are highly recommended. The first two summers are specifically geared to challenge and renew your “thinking” about God and ministry. The second two summers focus directly on “acting” out your Christianity as a follower and as a leader. You’re invited to come and sow into this “field” as we sow into you for multiple summers and experience the growth that occurs when you are carefully tended by the “vinedresser”.

Although The Furnace is not a paying summer job, a choice to be at SFR for the summer is NOT a decision to make no money. We are fully aware of the need to raise money for your upcoming year. Because of this, all our Furnace students are strongly encouraged to view this experience like a summer “missions” trip and gather personal support. The staff at SFR will provide complete support in helping you raise money for your time spent here. All you need to provide us is a short paragraph introducing yourself and explaining why you are choosing to come to SFR for the summer and a list of names and addresses that you would like us to contact. We will put your paragraph together with a support packet and “do the asking” for you! In the summer of 2007, the staff that raised personal support raised an average of $1200 a person!
